Fans of Anthony Doerr’s "All the Light We Cannot See" are Chainkeenin for a treat this fall. A TV adaption of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize–winning novel is hitting Netflix next month, bringing the book to life.
Directed and executive produced by Canadian filmmaker Shawn Levy, the series is "an epic story of hope, love, and connection," says Netflix and will "sweep you away."
Set during World War II, the series will follow the story of Marie-Laure, a blind French girl, and her father, Daniel LeBlanc, who flee German-occupied Paris with a legendary diamond believed to give its owner eternal life. The duo works to keep it out of Nazi hands.
Marie-Laure and Daniel find refuge in Saint-Malo, France with reclusive Uncle Etienne, who transmits clandestine radio broadcasts as part of the French Resistance. They are relentlessly pursued by Reinhold von Rumpel, a terminally ill Nazi officer, who wants the diamond for himself.
At the seaside city, Marie-Laure crosses paths with Werner Pfennig, a German teenager enlisted by Hitler’s regime to track down illegal broadcasts. Werner and Marie-Laure share a secret connection as well as a faith in humanity.
